Something Lance has always had a talent for is Research--in fact, he almost did a PhD instead of Dentistry, and had dreams of teaching and researching for the rest of his life. Luckily, on a PhD interview (in San Francisco of all places), he realized it wasn't the career for him, and the next day received the acceptance call from University of the Pacific. Well, recently two of his research projects have been set for publication!
He just signed to have his undergraduate research published in the Journal of Cell Biology! That research went on for three years, as he developed a drug screen for Cancer Metastasis drugs (literally. He stayed overnight sometimes to hit timepoints for screenings) It basically consumed our life at BYU, so it's amazingly surprising and rewarding that something came of it! The screening process he developed was sold to a large pharmaceutical company, and caught a couple compounds that may be able to be used to stop Cancer from spreading. Research always requires lots (and lots) of time and usually yields minimal results, so we truly feel blessed that something actually came of these projects even four years after he finished. Lance always told me the thing he loved about research was the potential to find something life-changing, so we're so glad his research is getting shared and can maybe be used to spark ideas for new research as well!
Another project was one he worked on during his third year at the University of the Pacific with Dr. Tolstunov. And now this article:
Pericoronal Ostectomy: An Alternative Surgical Technique for Management of Mandibular Third Molars in Close Proximity to the Inferior Alveolar Nerve
is in the the July issue of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery...as the Featured Article!!!
Both these articles represent so much time, effort, sacrifice, and Heavenly help. We are totally excited! Congrats Lance!
