Iowa!

I have a lot to catch up on: Addi's Birthday, Graduation, Utah, Moving, etc.  Things are a little crazy right now, but we're here in Iowa, and it's awesome! So for now here are some of our pictures from our first few days here.  We went to Devonian Fossil Gorge where you can go down into this Gorge and walk around, touch, and see tons of fossils--it was very cool.  Of course for our kids, the coolest things were the frogs, which were the smallest I had ever seen.  Addi thought they were "so cute little baby ones."

Kinnick Stadium, with the Hawkeye symbol.  I've seen this symbol several times a day on shirts, cars, flags, houses, posters, storefronts.  Just my guess, but I think football and the Hawkeyes are a big deal here.
When Lance came for his interview here they had him stay in this hotel with this Hawkeye Statue of Liberty.  Obsessed?  Slightly.
The school campus.  Iowa is such a beautiful place.

Time to Catch Up

Ever since Lance and I went on our trip together back in March, we have wanted to take our kids two places before we leave California: 1) Camping, and 2) Disneyland.  Well we scratched number two off the list! We definitely won't get the chance for the next five years while Lance is in a residency, so when he got off early, had no patients the next day, and had the morning off the next day...and we only live six hours away...we just went for it!  Call us crazy, but when your husband is going to be working 80-100 hours a week for the next five years, you will do some crazy things to spend fun family time before it starts. We stayed in a little cheap hotel, ate food from home, and drove through the night afterwards to save money, but it was totally worth it.  We never regret these spontaneous little family moments. Ever since we got home, Evelyn has been asking when we get to go back and ride the Pirate ride again.  Um...seven-ish years?

We surprised Evelyn with an early birthday present: a Rapunzel shirt we had bought a couple weeks previous. Unfortunately the line to actually see Rapunzel was over two hours long, so we didn't get to see her.
We did get to see ALL of the other princesses though for only a thirty minute wait! Addi didn't know what to think with the first couple princesses.
Sleeping Beauty kept asking Evelyn about her favorite princess (Rapunzel) and if she had already gotten to see Rapunzel, and how Rapunzel was so nice, and how we should go see her.  Thank you so much Sleeping Beauty for reminding her, haha.
Belle was super nice and played ring around the rosie with the girls, which warmed Addi up to the idea of real princesses.

Jasmine was also very nice and talked to Evie for a long time.  Addi was a bit too nervous and then...
...right as we were leaving she turned around and ran into Jasmine's arms for a hug and talked to her for a second.
The surprise of the day was Blake.  I thought he would basically be tagging along for the trip and wouldn't really even enjoy much of it, but he LOVED it.  He could go on almost all the rides and he laughed the entire time.  In fact these pictures are from the Nemo Submarine ride, as we went along he started laughing so much it was distracting everyone around us.

Vidia from Tinkerbell, if you don't know who Vidia is you are so out of the loop.

Blake waiting in line...holding on with one hand.  Such a crazy kid.
While the younger two napped in the stroller, Lance and I took turns taking Evelyn on some rides.  We even used the stroller pass on the Matterhorn since Evelyn was tall enough to go.  I took her first, and afterwards I asked her if she liked it.  She said, "I just did NOT like that Snow Monster! But Mom...EVERYONE else loved it!!! They were screaming and laughing at him, but I just didn't like him!" The second time, she went with Lance and loved it, since we talked about how the Snow Monster was definitely not real.

How the favorites of the day ended up:

Evie's Favorite: Dumbo, Teacups, and Pirates of the Caribbean
Addi's Favorite: It's a Small World and Peter Pan
Blake's Favorite: Nemo Submarine and Dumbo

"Our" Trail

At least three times a week for three years, I have taken this walking/jogging route, but obviously I have never thought to take pictures of the actual trail.  Now that it's time to go, I definitely want to remember the times I have gone on this route: jogging, morning walks with the kids, night clinic walks, walks with Lance, bike rides, etc. I have loved living in the Presidio so much, if even just for the fact that we have these trails in our backyard...literally.
The dune.  This area was a flat area of dirt when we moved in, and days later they covered it with tons of sand, put up a fence and called it a natural dune.

The gate:  This gate has been broken off no less than once a week since we lived here, and that is not an understatement.  This road is sort of a shortcut to downtown, but only the buses are allowed to use it.  Someone keeps busting through it with their car and breaking it completely off.  Finding the person who does it would be too hard...so they just put up a new gate every week.

Our shortcut trail so we don't have to walk on the road--it's becoming a real trail.

Back past the dune and home! Isn't this such a beautiful place?! What are the odds of Iowa having trails  like this I wonder...
