The Great Turkey

Almost six years ago at BYU, one of my professors (Dallin H. Oaks' niece) told us a story about how one year her husband told their kids that "The Great Turkey" would be coming to visit the night before Thanksgiving.  He would be coming to rest on his Thanksgiving night journey, so he would need a comfortable nest to rest in, and if they made one comfortable enough, The Great Turkey would reward them (three boys) with doritos and footballs in the nest.  She mentioned she was a little bit wary of a Great Turkey coming to bring junk food right after Halloween and before Christmas, but since her husband was having so much fun with the Great Turkey, she let him go with it.
Well fast forward six years to this Thanksgiving.  Lance told our kids that the Great Turkey would be coming to rest at our house that night.  It was time to make a nest and if it was really comfortable, the Great Turkey would reward them with cheetos and candy.  Who knew that six years later Lance would remember that story and decide that The Great Turkey should visit our house as well.  It must be a fun dad tradition.

Ev showing Lance the blankets she gathered for the nest (leaves would have been the most comfortable she said, but when we told her she couldn't bring armfuls of leaves into the house, blankets were naturally, the next most comfortable).  At first, when he told her to make the nest in her room, she said, "In my room?!  A turkey is going to come in MY ROOM?!  In MY room?! Oh I've never had a pet like that before!"
 Blake testing out the nest
Ev explaining to Addi what was going to happen, and Blake got banished from the nest by his sisters since he was "ruining it," hence the sad face

I think Addi misunderstood exactly when the Great Turkey was going to come. Her eyes were glued on the bedroom door and she kept whispering that she thought she heard a turkey coming.

Making sure the nest was comfortable enough
"This is how he's going to rest when he gets here, he's just going to cuddle up like this in the nest..."
They must have made a very comfortable nest!
And of course what better way to kick off Thanksgiving Day than by eating a candy breakfast, right?

I'm pretty sure the Great Turkey needs someone to host him next year...maybe he will come to your house?

That is so adorable. What a cute idea. Evelyn seems to take everything very seriously, which makes it, that much better. I'm glad that nest was comfortable enough. I wouldn't mind some candy and Cheetos too. ;)
