Arizona!
Match day came yesterday and when we opened the e-mail we were thrilled to find out that Lance matched into an Oral Surgery Program, and we will be moving to Phoenix, Arizona for the next four years! It made it even more exciting to have Lance's family visiting and to have them find out with us!
Arizona was one of the top programs on our list, and as we research more and more about it, we get even more excited. The next four months are going to fly by with all we have to do before we go!
This program has some definite positives to it, especially for our family:
-There are not many programs closer to both of our families--just a 10 hour drive to my family, and a direct ($87) flight to Bellingham, which is by Lance's family!
-Friends! We know several people in the Phoenix area, so it will definitely not be a lonely place!
-Housing! Thank you housing market for crashing so badly in Phoenix and allowing us to buy in a few months. One of the residents bought a new, very nice 2200 sq ft home for $150,000. Wow, I am so excited.
-Sunshine. I am the kind of person who loves waking up to a sunny day!
-For Lance, the program has AMAZING implant experience, better than anywhere else he's seen, and great trauma experience.
-Benefits and Pay. This program was the only other program we had seen with benefits equal to Iowa. Health insurance for our whole family, and very high pay vs cost of living.
-Costco. Costco gets it's own sentence because I have missed it so much here. Uncooked tortillas, fresh produce, Tillamook cheese, bulk toilet paper...I have missed it all! And there are plenty of Costcos in the Phoenix Area.
-Things to do. Just with the little research I've done, I don't think we will ever get bored in Phoenix. Tons of hiking, drive-in movies, museums, zoos, etc.
As you can tell we are getting very excited for this and we are feeling extremely blessed and grateful at the moment. Thank you for everyone who has supported us and cheered us on, it has been a hard year! We're going to try to fit in all the Midwest has to offer before we leave, and enjoy the snow while we have it...then, Arizona, here we come!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! We are so excited for you guys. We lived in the valley for 4 years so let us know if we can do anything to help. I'm sure you'll be seeing us at some point:) So glad everything worked out!!!
Wahoo! I'm so happy you're coming our way! It's awesome weather, and you're right, there are a ton of things to do here. Plus all the swimming pools year round... the kids love it!
