We were able to head up to Flagstaff for the 4th of July this year. We decided to get out of town and out of the heat as a celebration of Lance's first 4th of July off of work in three years!
On the drive up there was a massive monsoon, which afterward offered some of the most beautiful skies I've ever seen. I don't think I could ever capture it in a photo! We saw at least four double rainbows, and then some amazing fiery skies beneath the storm!
The next morning we went to the parade downtown. It was a really fun parade, and of course the kids loved the fact that they got more "stuff" from a parade than ever before. Full candy bars, beanie babies, boomerangs, packs of gum, cookies, candy, otter pops...I think we were completely sugared out by the time it was over. Right as we left it started pouring and basically didn't stop all day. We honestly didn't mind though - we've been missing the rain in Phoenix!

That night we had a barbecue with Lindsay and Carlton Taylor and their family (new resident families, yeah!) We all went over to see the fireworks in the pouring rain, and the kids loved wearing their headlights.
The next day Dr. Burhow let us drive around on his quad, which the kids absolutely loved!
Next we headed over to the Lava River Cave. The initial descent into the cave is about 10 minutes on large boulders, and then the entire rest of the hike is underground. It was so dark you couldn't even see your hand in front of you - the only light was from our head lamps. Any pictures I got in the cave were purely from turning on the flash and snapping blindly.
Despite Addi's feelings about the cave at the beginning, she warmed up to the idea at the end
The kids decided on a "thumbs up" picture to celebrate finishing our hike. It was definitely one we will remember!
