Lance's family was able to come visit us a few weeks ago, and we couldn't have been happier that they came...especially since now this might be their only chance to see Iowa before we leave! Being winter, there wasn't much to go out and do, but it was fun to show them around a little bit, go on some walks, and just enjoy the company of family--something we will take anytime!
We went over to the cheese factory in Kalona, and got some "squeaky cheese" aka cheese curds, and watched the cheese being made. By the way, I love in this picture how Emma is putting her hand on Blake's back. She really fit right in with our family and it was just like we had another sister in our family. We could have kept her forever.
As we drove through a small town on our way to John Deere Pavillion, Lance noticed this sign off the side of the road and pulled over. His Grandpa Crosslin is a HUGE Star Trek fan...and there was no way to resist a photo op for him.
Afterwards I saw a Welcome to Riverside sign that said "where the Trek begins" and "home of Trek Fest" After further investigation, I learned Trekfest includes a battle of the bands called "Spockapalooza" and a "trektor" pull. Wow, this town seriously loves Star Trek.
When we got to the John Deere Pavillion it was closed for renovation until mid-February, which was a bummer. But we went and played in the tractor store which has every kind of tractor a kid could dream of.
Last but not least we celebrated Lance's birthday! He turned 28 on January 22nd but was gone on call all day, so we saved celebrations until the weekend following. We can't wait to see everyone again in April for Sheila's wedding!
