I can't even begin to describe what an amazing and much-needed vacation this was for Lance and me. Lance gets three weeks off per year, and the rest of the year is...busy. As in 80-120 hours per week busy. This is absolutely not an exaggeration. Between his work, church callings for both of us, four kids and SLEEP, there is little time left for the two of us to spend any time together. This vacation gave us a small glimpse of what it will be like to have that time together again! It was rainy, cold, and crazy, and we loved every single second.
Our first stop was Times Square. Sadly I am closing my eyes in this picture, but it is a good demonstration of how tired we were after our red-eye flight (we arrived at 9am and took the train in from the airport).

American Museum of Natural History - we only planned three hours for this place and could have spent ALL DAY. It was amazing. We are already planning another future trip to take our kids.

Best cookies I have ever eaten (1/4 lb each!), and I still think about them every day. I have been trying to recreate the recipe with minimal luck!
There was no way we would have been able to afford tickets to a broadway show at $170+ tickets per person, so Lance got up extremely early and stood in the line outside to see if he could get same-day rush tickets ($30). They are usually not-as-good seats, but he was the first one there and they gave him BOX seats for the rush ticket price - we had our own balcony! We saw Les Mis, and it was so so great!
The best part of the trip was just exploring. We took night walks every night (since 11pm in NYC felt like 8pm to us). A-mazing.
One World Trade Center. It was absolutely sobering to go to the World Trade Center Memorial Museum. I would recommend it to everyone going to NYC.

Ellis Island
We met up with Lance's cousin Sharra who lives just out of the city. She and her husband attended school in the city and are familiar with all the non-tourist sections of the city. Sharra took us to the Village and showed us around. We went to the Chelsea Market for lunch and then ate up on the highline.
Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center). It's at the top of one of the highest skyscrapers, and your ears pop on the elevator ride to the top. We were literally in the clouds. You can see Times Square - the screen on the bottom right.

The biggest and best toy store ever! I was so sad to learn just a few months after we left, that FAO Schwarz is going out of business this summer! I am extremely sad we will never get to go back!

We also got to go on the Jimmy Fallon Show, which was AWESOME. Lance got a high five from Jimmy Fallon at the end of the show, while my hands were the only thing visible on camera. Seriously fun.
Oh New York, we had the best food we've ever eaten, had so many new and fun experiences, and had an amazingly fun time - but we only scratched the surface! We will be back someday!
